The Alchemist

Hey all!

First off, let me say:

Watch “Mind of Mencia” on Comedy Central on June 18 at 10:30 pm (9:30 central)!

Ok. Having said that, let me tell you, working on the Mind of Mencia show was a blast!

It was a long day (I was there from 8:45am - 8:45 pm), but the people there were fantastic. The stage manager, Paul, was super nice as was everyone from wardrobe to makeup to PAs to the actors to the extremely affable Carlos Mencia. (BTW: His real name is Ned! Very cool! Although, I must admit the first thing I thought of when I heard the name was “Ned Flanders”. Doh!)

After arriving (yeah, I was the first actor on the set… call me obsessive), most of the day was spent “hanging out” and waiting for one rehearsal or another. That gave us plenty of time to work on our lines and make ourselves comfortable… which was nice because they changed the lines and the way they wanted them delivered a few times. My character was a suburban white man transplanted to the ghettos with his wife and having to pretend to fit in there - a very funny skit that my “wife” and I really enjoyed. We rehearsed it a couple of times as being very awkward white people in an unfamiliar environment (as we had auditioned) before Carlos saw it and suggested (well, told us) that we should amp it up and give it full attitude! Even better! (Hey, that’s why he’s the comedian!)

Then, as luck would have it, the rewriting of the show called for another character in another part of the segment and Carlos asked me to take that spot as well. Sweet! Another chance to have some fun on stage! So, I became “Neighbor #1″ on the show as well. (Thus, I got to call Carlos a “bastard”… now how often do you get to do that?!?)

By the way, I also had the opportunity to meet and hang out with another regular on the show, Brad Williams. He was also a super cool guy and one that I very much enjoyed talking and working with. (Brad is on the left in the photo below and Shorty Rossi is on the right.)

So, let’s cut to the chase: At the end of the day (at about 8:00pm) we took to the stage and it was well worth the wait! It’s not often that you get an opportunity to perform for about 200 screaming fans! What a wonderfully rowdy and receptive audience! And, of course, knowing that thousands more will see the performance on Comedy Central Woo!

Hey all. I know I haven’t been posting much… so perhaps this will make up for it:

I have some fantastic news on the theatrical front: I’ve just booked a guest star role on Mind of Mencia!

It’s a hilarious little sketch - as almost all of Mencia’s sketches are (yes, I’m a fan). So I’m really looking forward to my work on his show tomorrow! Woo!

(Now I just have to make sure I don’t look like a D D D! ;-))

So apparently when I updated Wordpress a while back, it killed my RSS feed. Sorry about that. I’m working on it…

Update: And we’re back. As it turns out, there were a couple of technical issues that needed to be addressed. Fortunately, I’m technical.
