The Alchemist

Here we are, closing down January and my first month in Los Angeles… so it’s a good time to evaluate where I stand and where I’m going.

First off, what happened?

@Home:

• Gobs of unpacking! We still have many boxes, but we’re getting there.
• Got the kids in school and they’re doing great!
• Various new home purchases.
• Tons of home repairs. The pool, Amy’s laptop, leaky windows, dishwasher, clothes washer, electrical system… Yikes! Needless to say, the costs of this move have been higher than anticipated…

@Work:

• Attended at least 4 acting workshops.
• Attended 2 networking events.
• Signed up for a 6-week acting class with Jeffrey Brooks (attended 3 classes so far… and it’s been great!).
• Joined The Actors Network.
• Auditioned for a local Indie film.
• Met with 2 commercial talent agents and received offers from them of representation. (I’ve also received offers to meet with 3 others that I won’t because…)
• I’m signing with Clear Talent Group as my commercial agent! Yes!!!

So, what’s next? How about setting some February goals?

• Sign up for a commercial audition class.
• Get new headshots.
• Attend more networking events.
• Book a commercial (SAG, I hope!)
• Send out some kind of marketing to casting directors
• Start a software project

Wow. Lots to do. I gotta get going!

I know, I know… I’m so behind on my blogging. Suffice it to say that the move to LA has gone far less smoothly than hoped. Whatever. I need to focus on the positive!

So… I’ve now attended a few workshops and I’ve signed up for an acting class with Jeffrey Brooks at Actors Creative Workshop. He’s a really dynamic, no-nonsense guy that I believe I’ll learn a lot from.

Anyway, I’m super excited to get things moving in Los Angeles. It’s been far too long already and I’m really itching to get out there and work!

Dependence has won another award! In addition to the Harvest Moon Film Festival Viewer’s Choice Award I mentioned a while back, Dependence has won the CINE Gold Eagle Award! Fantastic job everyone!

So it’s official - we’re now living in California! And what a welcome we’ve had! Winter storms have hit us with apparently some of the nastiest, rainiest, and coldest weather that Los Angeles has to offer! So much for sunny Cali.

In related news, we’re completely surrounded by boxes in our little house. We literally have to dodge boxes of unknown stuff as we move throughout the house. I hope we can get back to some normalcy soon so I can start pursuing the acting jobs that I came out here for!

Oh… and one more thing to add to the insanity - Amy’s computer crashed a hard drive and will no longer boot. Ack! Thank goodness I have a somewhat recent backup. (Thank you, Apple! Leopard’s Time Machine will have paid off huge when I get the new drive!)
