A major, life-changing event

I’ve been hinting about it for a while, but if you haven’t figured it out yet, here’s one last clue…

Dependence wins Audience Choice award!

I just received word that the film “Dependence” has won the Audience Choice award in the Harvest Moon Film Festival. I’m proud to have starred in this film with its strong message on addiction and brotherly love. Congratulations to everyone involved!

FTCF is in the can!

FTCF Image

I’m way behind on my blogging (more about that soon), but I wanted to give you a quick update on the First They Came For… shoot.

The shot went from dawn until midnight… and, sadly, most of the day was cold and overcast. I apparently wasn’t prepared well enough for the cold… as and I ended up losing my voice by the end of the day (it’s mostly recovered now). Nevertheless, we had a great time and got everything in that we had hoped to in one day! Considering that we had to get 4 locations in 18 hours - that’s pretty amazing!

We had a bunch of people involved and everyone did their part. In fact, I found everyone on the shoot was supportive and fun to work with. A BIG thanks to you all for making the long, cold shoot actually enjoyable!

One other thing I want to mention, Polina Osherov was our still photographer on the shoot and did a fantastic job. She’s posted some of the photos on her blog (I included one of them in this post) and I encourage your to check it out. Great job, Polina!

Now it’s post-production time…

Shooting FTCF tomorrow!

Tomorrow’s the big day! We’re going all day to get as much of “First They Came For…” filmed as we can. It begins at dawn.

Whew! I gotta get to bed…

IMDB frustration

I’m going to rant a little bit about IMDB. It’s kind of a love-hate relationship. There’s no better source for film information, but it can be kind of hard on the indie film industry.

If you’ve been to my IMDB page, you’ve no doubt noticed that I only have 4 credits listed… but if you know my work, or have seen my resume lately, you know that I actually have more than a dozen film credits - and I’m only listing the credits that are significant roles!

It’s frustrating, really. If you are at all familiar with IMDB (and most people are), you know that they generally have the habit of listing just about anything that even might happen some time off in the distant future - but only if it is from a well-known name. For example, it lists that Tom Cruise is “attached” to a film now only in pre-production that won’t be released until 2009 and also has a link to 5 other “in-development” credits for him that are even farther out. On the other hand, many of my films have already been filmed, but are still in post-production because of lengthy post-production schedules and IMDB won’t list a single one of them until they are in public release.

(Oh, and they also have apparently chosen to ignore my request to add my credit for The Dark Knight. Geesh. I could show them my pay stub if they want it…)

Of course, some day they’ll be listing my films in advance too… and it’s very likely that I won’t much about this anymore at that point… But in the mean time: Grrrr.

“First They Came For…” now in production

Last night we began principle photography for “First They Came For…”. It was a great night and a fantastic way to start off the filming of this production! It looks like we’ll be filming some b-roll stuff Friday and then we’re off to the races on Saturday for a marathon session of filming starting at dawn and ending… well, probably not until Sunday. Rock on!

It’s Plausible

Fantastic news, folks! Mark Racop has just announced that I have been offered and have accepted the lead role in MagicHouse Productions’ next feature film now in pre-production and set to start filming next spring: Plausible Deniability!

This film is going to be a fantastic spy thrill ride with overtones of The Hunt For Red October. Here’s a quick description of the film from the MagicHouse site (which hardly does the excellent script justice!):

A new threat has emerged from the Russian mafia, a bio-terrorism weapon that could wipe out millions. When the superspy is killed, it’s up to his tech to save the day in this action-packed spy thriller. This movie is slated to go into production in 2008.

That’s right… I’m Gibson. Alex Gibson. And I’ll take my martini shaken… or stirred!

Salvation Army spot

Hey all, I just wanted to share a new spot of mine. I volunteered to do a promotional spot for The Salvation Army Indiana Division IndyKettle.org site a few days ago and they’ve now made it available online:

That’s right: “I’m a traditional red kettle.” Check it out!
