Fi on religion and politics, now back to the arts!

Last weekend I shot on two films, wrapping my work on both.

Saturday, I wrapped my role as The Dentist on “The Contract” - a short film about what happens when you double-cross the wrong folks. Sunday wrapped my role as Scottie in “Postpartum” - a dark feature about a killer.

These dark films seem to be quite popular in the indy film scene! Not that I didn’t enjoy performing in these films, I did, but I think at this point I’m ready for some… well, “lighter” fair.

Speaking of which, I guess I’m now officially a “professional model” - well, at least in the sense that I had a professional photo shoot for a print advertisement! The shoot was for the Indiana Visitors Bureau and I and my compatriots spent over an hour laughing our heads off over nothing in particular. Funny stuff. My face hurts.

And, finally, I’ve started my next Improv class - the Comedy Sportz Improv Level III class with Ed Trout. I was a little late - because of my photo shoot - but the remainder of the class was great! Once again I was lucky enough to be a part of one of those scenes that just went nearly perfect. We were doing “duets”, so my scene partner (we’ll just call her A since I don’t know if she wants her name here on my blog) and I took to the stage (as always) not knowing what would be thrown at us for our musical duet. Then the topic suggestion came… Dominatrix. Hoo boy. So A turns to me and quickly says “Our title has to be Whip me, Beat me” just before Ed starts the music. Nice call, A! Better yet - the music start and is a love song! Off she goes singing the first “Whip me” and I fill in the following “beat me” and we sang out what seem to be a most lovely duet. Of course, I can’t for the life of me remember the lyrics we sang, but it was pretty good based on the reactions of the others. Heck, one of the other members of the class said that she felt “uncomfortable” watching! (I guess the pretty love song melodies and violent lyrics didn’t sit well with her.) In any case, Ed also gave us great kudos for the scene and I was very happy.

By the way, I don’t know if I ever posted about the other time I had a great improv scene - one involving me as a female figure skater (ask me sometime) - but it was with the same girl (A) in my Improv II class. Coincidence? Great improv synergy? Or is A just really good? Well, from what I’ve seen, I’m betting on A!

9/11, 9/9

Remembering our American twin tragedies:

On Sept. 11, 2001 America suffered a horrendous tragedy as it lost the twin towers in New York city and 2,973 people (mostly American citizens) died. We still feel this pain.

As of Sept. 9, 2006 3,015 American citizens had died in Iraq, and more than 20,000 had been wounded and both numbers continue to grow. It is an open wound.

To reiterate: George Bush is now responsible for more American deaths than even Osama Bin Laden… let alone Saddam Hussein.
